Friends of Keewatin is the DBA (Doing Business As) name for the RJ and Diane Peterson Keewatin Foundation (formerly the RJ and Diane Peterson Great Lakes Foundation and Keewatin Museum) (Registered Charity 81676 3536 RR0001) named for the Michigan couple who saved the SS Keewatin from the wreckers in 1967.
Friends of Keewatin is operated by a President, through a small Board of Management. Work is done by volunteers… currently numbering in excess of 70 regular volunteers, and several hundred occasional volunteers. Volunteers are typically people with a personal or family association with CP operations in Port McNicoll (although some of us are simply captivated by the ship or the project).
Friends of Keewatin operates the S.S. Keewatin as a “historical destination” and funds both the restoration of the ship, and its operation, from revenue derived from tour fees. Donations are welcome, and typically earmarked to defray capital costs.
